Two numbers are in the ratio 7:9. When each of these numbers is decreased by 4. then their rabo becomes 5: 7. Find the sum of two numbers.​

Let numbers be in fraction 7x/9x

As per the second statement we will have to reduce 4 from each .

So, 7x-4 / 9x-4 = 5/7

7x-4 * 7 = 9x-4 * 5

49x - 28 = 45x - 20

49x - 45x = -20 + 28

4x = 8

x = 2

By susbsituting value of x in the first given ratio

7x = 7*2 = 14

9x = 9*2 = 18

Hence sum = 14 + 18 = 32
