let x be the first number, then the second number = x - 40
when both are increased by 8
x+8
x-40+8=x-32
Here,
x+8=3(x-32)
x+8=3x-96
8+96=3x-x
104=2x
x=104/2
x=52
And,
The other number=52-40=12.
this is your answer and may I help you friend.
