The numbers are 5 and 2 which has difference 3.

Solution:

As given in the question 2 number differs by 3. So let us take these 2 numbers as X and Y.

X – Y = 3 ______(1)

Now as given in the question the sum of the twice the smaller number and thrice of the greater number is 19.

Hence, let us take Y as the smaller number and X as the larger number. So the equations will be ,

2Y + 3X = 19  ______(2)

Equation (1) can be rewritten as X= 3+Y

Substitute X = 3+ Y in 2Y + 3X = 19 we get,

2Y + 3 (Y + 3) = 19

2Y+ 3Y + 9 = 19

5Y = 10

Y =2

Substitute Y = 2 in X = Y + 3

X = 2+3 = 5

X= 5
