3

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the 2 required number be x and y, where x > y

According to the question

x - y = 3 _______ eqⁿ ( 1 )

x + 2y = 15_____ eqⁿ ( 2 )

eqⁿ ( 2 ) - ( 1 ) gives

x + 2y - ( x- y ) = 15 - 3

x + 2y - x + y = 12

3y = 12

y = 4

Therefore, the smaller number is 4 and the larger number is 7

Given:-

  • Two numbers differs by 3.
  • The sum of the greater numbers and twice the smaller number is 15.

To Find:-

  • Find the smaller Is number..?

Solutions:-

  • Let the large number be x.
  • Let the smaller number be y.

Two numbers are differ by 3.

=> x - y = 3

=> x = 3 + y .......(i).

Sum of greater number are twice the smaller number is 15.

=> x + 2y = 15 .........(ii).

Putting the value of x in Eq (ii).

=> x + 2y = 15

=> 3 + y + 2y = 15

=> 3 + 3y = 15

=> 3y = 15 - 3

=> 3y = 12

=> y = 12/3

=> y = 4

Putting the value of y in Eq (i).

=> x = 3 + y

=> x = 3 + 4

=> x = 7.

Hence, the smaller number is 4 and largest number is 7.
