two numbers sum up to 29 and their difference is 3. Find the numbers.

Sum = 29 \\  \\ difference = 3 \\  \\ smaller \: number =  \frac{sum  - difference}{2}  \\  \\ bigger \: number =  \frac{sum + difference}{2} <br />

smaller \: number =  \frac{29  - 3}{2}  =  \frac{26}{2}  = 13 \\  \\ bigger \: number =  \frac{29 + 3}{2}  =  \frac{32}{2}  = 16<br />

Let the first number be x.

Then, second number will be ( 29 - x ).

Their difference, = 3

x - ( 29 - x ) = 3

x - 29 + x = 3

2x = 3 + 29 = 32

x = 32 / 2 = 16

So, the first number is 16.

Second number = 29 - 16 = 13
