Two objects each of mass 2.5 kg, are moving in the same straight line but in opposite directions. The velocity of each object is 2.5 ms–1 before the collision during which they stick together. What will be the velocity of the combined object after collision?

Given:-

•Mass of the first object(m1)=2.5kg

•Mass of the second object(m2)=2.5kg

•Initial velocity of the first object(u1)=2.5m/s

•Initial velocity of the second object(u2)= -2.5m/s (as it is moving in opposite direction)

To find:-

•Velocity of the combined object after collision

Solution:-

By law of conservation of momentum,we get----

=>m1u1+m2u2=(m1+m2)v

=>2.5×2.5+2.5×(-2.5)=(2.5+2.5)v

=>0=5v

=>v=0/5

=>v=0

Thus,the velocity of the combined object after collision is zero,means after collision both the masses will come to rest.
