Two objects of masses 100 g and 200 g are moving along the same line and direction with velocities of 2 ms^-1 and 1 ms^-1 respectively. They collide and after the collision, the first object moves at a velocity 1.67 ms^-1. Determine the velocity of the second object???

Answer:

1.165 ms^-1

Explanation:

Acceleration of the first object = (1.67 - 2)m/s^2 {unit time}

                                                   = -0.33 m/s^2

Force exerted by the first object = - 0.033 N

According to 3rd law of Newton, Force = Reaction,

so, Force exerted by the second object is = 0.033 N {Sign change for direction change}

now acceleration of 2nd object = 0.033*5 m/s^2

= 0.165 m/s^2

so, present speed of 2nd body = acceleration + old speed

= 1.165 ms^-1
