Two objects of masses 100 g and 200 g are moving along the same line and direction with velocities of 2 m/s and 1 m/s, respectively. They collide and after the collision, the first object moves at a velocity of 1.67 m/s. Determine the velocity of the second object. (nid d solution step by step)

before collision
M1=100g M2=200g
v1=2m/s V2=1m/s

After collision
m1=100 M2=200
v1=1.67 v2=?
m1v1=m2v2
100(1.67)=200v
167=200v
167/200=v2
0.835=v2

this is based on the concept of momentum where moment is not conserve din the above case so here let us assume m1=100g, m2=200g, v1=2m/s, v2=1m/s

and let final velocities be v1f=1.67m/s and v2f we need to find

m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v1f + m2v2f

=100*2 + 200*1 = 100*1.67 + 200*v2f

= 200+200 = 167 + 200*v2f

=400-167=200*v2f

=on solving we get v2f=1.165m/s
