Two objects of masses 100 gram and 200 gram are moving along the same line and direction with velocities of 2m/s
and 1m/s, respectively. They collide and after collision the first object moves at a velocity of 1.67m/s . Determine the velocity of the second object.

Hey mate,

Okay, as per tge law of conservation of linear momentum we know, If two bodies interact in the absence of any external force acting on them, then the total momentum of the bodies before and after collision will remain the same.
So, in this case, we have,
M1= 100gm, i.e, 0.1kg
M2=200gm,i.e, 0.2kg
U1( velocity of the first body before collision)=2m/s
U2(velocity of the second body before collision)=1m/s
V1(velocity of the first body after collision)= 1.67m/s
V2(velocity of the second body after collision)=?

So,
M1U1+M2U2=M1V1+M2V2
=> 0.1×2+0.2×1=0.1×1.67+0.2×V2
=>0.4=.167+0.2×V2
=>V2=1.165 m/s

So, the velocity of the second body is 1.165m/s.
