Find the difference in the two parallel lines:

Difference = 58 - 42 = 16 cm

Find the difference in length on each side:

Difference in length of each side = 16 ÷ 2 = 8 cm

Find the height:

a² + b² = c²

height² + 8² = 17²

height² = 17² - 8²

height² = 225

height = √225

height = 15 cm

Find the area:

Area of a trapezium = 1/2 (a + b) x h

Area = 1/2 ( 58 + 42) x 15 = 750 cm²

Answer: The area is 750 cm²
