Question :---- we have to Find Time of each pipe to fill the tank ...
Given :----
- both can fill it in = 6 H , 40 min = 6(40/60) = 20/3 hours
- one pipe take 3 hours less than other pipe to fill .
Solution :-------
Let both pipes be A and B ,
Here efficiency of A > B,
so, Let A takes = X hours to Fill the tank
than B takes = (x+3) hours to fill the tank ,
both will fill in
1/x + 1/(x+3) Hours to fill the tank.
A/q, now,
1/x + 1/x+3 = 3/20
Lets try to solve this now , by taking lcm of denominator ,
So , pipe A will fill the tank in = 12 hours
pipe B will fill the tank in = 12+3 = 15 hours ...
(Hope it helps you)
