Given :
Magnitude of first charge (q₁) = 1μC
Magnitude of second charge (q₂) = 4μC
Distance between charges = 3m
To Find :
The position at which net electric field between the charges is zero
Solution :
- Let the point be at a distance of X from the first charge
- As the net electricfield is zero the electric field produced by two charges should be equal
E₁ = E₂
- kq₁/r₁² = kq₂/r₂²
- 1/x² = 4/(3-x)²
- (3-x)² / x² = 4
- (3-x) / x = 2
- 3-x = 2x
- 3x = 3
- x = 1m
The electric field is zero at a distance of 1m from the 1μC charged particle
