Two polarizing sheets have their polarizing directions parallel so that the intensity of the transmitted light is maximum. Through what angle must either sheet be turned so that the intensity becomes one-half the initial value.

We know that I=I°/2 (given)

I = I°cos²ø

I°/2 = I cos²ø

Cos²ø = ±1/√2

Ø = ±45° & ± 135°
