Two poles of height 6m and 11 m stand on a plane ground. If the distance between their feet is 12 m,find the distance between their tops.

Answer:

Let AB be the pole of 11m.

Let CD be the pole of 6m.

Draw CE parallel to BD

CE = BD = 12m

Now,

In right Triangle AEC

ACsquare = AEsquare + CEsquare

ACsquare = (11-6)square + 12square

ACsquare = 5*5 + 12*12

ACsquare =  25 + 144

ACsquare =  169

AC = root169

AC = 13m
