Two poles of height 8m nd 13m stand on a plane ground. if the distance between their tips is 13m , find the distance between their feet.

Let AC be pole with height 13m, DE be the pole with height 8m and AE be the distance between their top 13m.

BC = DE = 8m
BE = CD

AB = AC - BC
AB = 13 - 8
AB = 5m

In ∆ABE, angle ABE = 90°

AB^2 + BE^2 = AE^2
( 5 )^2 + BE^2 = ( 13 )^2
BE^2 = 169 - 25
BE =√144
BE = 12m

BE = CD = 12m

Distance between their foot is 12m.
