draw a perpendicular line from the top of the 9m pole to the 15m pole..
you will observe that a triangle is formed(right angled)..
the hypotenuse is 10m and the base is unknown,the other side is (15-9)=6m
let the unknown side be x..
then,using pythogoras rule,
10^2=x^2+6^2
100=x^2+36
x^2=64
x=8
so the required distance is 8m
