Two resistors of 3 and 5 are connected in parallel. A potential difference of 9 V is
applied across their terminals using a battery and the plug key of the circuit is closed.
Draw a circuit diagram representing the above given information.
(ii) If the given resistors are replaced by a single new resistor such that the
current in the circuit remains unchanged, what should be the resistance of this
new resistor?

Explanation:

Question 1)

Question 2)

The given resistors are parallel.

=> 1/R(parallel) = 1/R1 + 1/R2

=> 1/3 + 1/5

=> 8/15

=> 15/8

=> 1.875

The two resistors of 3 Ω and 5 Ω will be replaced by the resistor of 1.875 Ω
