The thin rod will sink in the sand.

Explanation:

The thin rod will sink in the sand. The reason behind this is the area of contact. The area of contact of the thick rod is more as compared to the thin one. In the given case, the same force has been applied to both the rods. But, the pressure created is different because of the area of contact. In the thin rod, more pressure has been produced while in the thick one, less pressure has been produced.
