i ) Length of the
first rope = 5 1/3 m--( 1 )
ii ) Length of the
second rope = 6 1/5 m--( 2 )
Total length = ( 1 ) + ( 2 )
= 5 1/3 + 6 1/5
= 16/3 + 31/5
= ( 16 × 5 + 31 × 3 )/15
= ( 80 + 93 )/15
= 173/15
= 11 8/15 m
