There was a recognition of 1956 that created a dispute between Maharashtra and Gujrat which lead to the formation of two states of Martha.

Explanation:

  • Bombay was a big state of Maharashtra and Gujrat was a part of it.

  • Samykta Maharashtra wanted a separate state for Marathas while Gujrat junta Parishad wanted a separate state for Gujrat.

  • Both wanted Bombay to be the capital of their states.

  • A lot of violence started in Bombay and other areas because of this.

  • So in 1960 two new states were made Gurjat and Maharashtra, Bombay was given to Maharashtra and Ahmedabad was made the capital of Gujrat.
