Two simple pendulums have their lengths as 1.44
and 1.69 m respectively. They start in phase fror
the mean position simultaneously. After how man
oscillations of the longer pendulum they will be
phase again?

Number of oscillations of larger pendulum after which they will be in phase again = 120

  • Oscillation depend on time period.
  • Time period is directly proportional to √l
  • Ratio of time period between the two pendulums = √1.69/√1.44

                                                                                         = 1.3/1.2

  • The LCM of this periods will give the common oscillation. Make LCM into a non decimal number. You will get 120 oscillations for larger pendulum and 130 for smaller one.
