Two spheres of same mass and radius are in contact with each other. Each have moment of inertia I. The mass moment of inertia about as axis perpendicular to their point of contact, and tangent to the spheres, needs to be calculated and compared.

1) The mass moment of inertia for each spheres about their own axis is

I = 2/5 * mR^2

2) Distance of the new axis which passes from the point of contact tangent to the spheres is R.

3) So the required mass moment of inertia is 2 * (2/5 mR^2 + mR^2).

4) On calculating it comes 7 * 2/5 mR^2 = 7 I.
