Answer :

★ For sphere A

  • Mass = 20 g
  • Initial velocity = 3 m/s
  • Final velocity = 2.5 m/s

★ For sphere B

  • Mass = 40 g
  • Initial velocity = 2 m/s

We have to find final velocity of sphere B after collision.

Since no external force acts on the system of sphere, momentum of whole system is conserved.

Initial momentum of system will be equal to the final momentum of system.

Momentum is measured as the product of mass and velocity.

  • P = m × v

➠ P (initial) = P (final)

➠ m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = m₁v₁ + m₂v₂

➠ 20(3) + 40(2) = 20(2.5) + 40v₂

➠ 60 + 80 = 50 + 40v₂

➠ 40v₂ = 90

v₂ = 2.25 m/s
