∴ a - b = 21     ...Equation (i)

a = 80% of (a+b)

⇒ a = 0.8 (a + b)

⇒ a = 0.8a + 0.8b

⇒ (1 - 0.8)a - 0.8b = 0

⇒ 0.2a - 0.8b = 0

⇒ 2a - 8b = 0  .... Equation (ii)

Multiplying eq (i) with 8 and subtracting eq (ii) from it

(8-2)a - (8-8)b = 168

⇒ 6a = 168

a = 28

Substituting a in equation (i)

b = a - 21 = 28 - 21

b = 7
