Two tanks, i and ii have capacities in ratio 3:4 respectively. A pipe fills tank i in 5 hrs at constant rate. How many hours will it take for the same pipe to fill tank ii if the rate at which the pipe fills the tank is doubled ​

Let the capacities be 3x and 4x respectively.

By using the formula,

R × T = V

R1 × 5 = 3x i.e R1 = 3x/5

2R1 × t = 4x i.e R1 = 2x/t

(Since same pipe is used to fill the pipes, R will be same)

Now compare the values of R1,

3x/5 = 2x/t

Therefore, t = 10/3

i.e t = 3 1/3
