Given :-

Two times of number and five times of another number added together makes 20.

Four times of the first number added to three times of second gives 26.

To Find :-

The Numbers

Solution :-

Let the two numbers be x and y respectively.

According to the question,

Case 1 :

Two times of number (x) and five times of another number (y) added together makes 20.

⇒ 2x + 5y = 20 ...(1)

Case 2 :

Four times of first number (x) added to three times of second number (y) gives 26.

⇒ 4x + 3y = 26 ...(2)

Multiply (1) by 2,

⇒ 4x + 10y = 40 ...(3)

Subtracting (3) from (2), we have

⇒ 4x + 3y - (4x + 10y) = 26 - 40

⇒ 4x + 3y - 4x - 10y = -14

⇒ -7y = -14

y = 2

Substituting [y = 2] in (1) , we have

⇒ 2x + 5(2) = 20

⇒ 2x + 10 = 20

⇒ 2x = 10

x = 5

Hence, the numbers are 2 and 5.

Answer :-

  • Numbers are 5 and 2 respectively.

Given :-

  • Two times of number and five times of another number added together makes 20 and four times of the first number added to three times of second number gives 26.

To Find :-

  • Those numbers.

Solution :-

Let the two numbers be x and y respectively.

→ Two times of x and five times of y added together makes 20

  • 2x + 5y = 20 ...i)

→ Four times of x added to three times of y gives 26.

  • 4x + 3y = 26 ...ii)

Multiple eq...i) by 2

  • 4x + 10y = 40 ...iii)

Subtract eq...ii) from eq...iii)

4x + 10y - (4x + 3y) = 40 - 26

→ 4x + 10y - 4x - 3y = 14

→ 10y - 3y = 14

→ 7y = 14

→ y = 2

Substitute the value of y in eq...i)

2x + 5(2) = 20

→ 2x + 10 = 20

→ 2x = 20 - 10

→ 2x = 10

→ x = 5

Hence, the numbers are 5 and 2 respectively.
