Two trains, 130 and 110 metres long, are going in
the same direction. The faster train takes one minute
pass the other completely. If they are moving in
opposite directions, they pass each other completely
in 3 seconds. Find the speed of the faster train.

Answer:

use the concept of relative velocity

total distance-240 m

when going in same direction

240/x-y=60

x-y=4

when going in different direction

240/x+y=3

x+y=80

solving the equations we get

x=42 and y=38

speed of faster train is 42m/s

and slower one is 38m/s
