two trains of lengths 300m and 400m moving in opposite directions started crossing each other. at exactly the same moment a person standing inside the first train, at its end, started walking towards its engine at 5km/hr. if the speeds of the first and the second train are 50km/hr and 35km/hr respectively, then how much time after the trains started crossing each other did the second train cross the man walking the first train?
Answers
Given : two trains of lengths 300m and 400m moving in opposite directions started crossing each other. at exactly the same moment a person standing inside the first train, at its end, started walking towards its engine at 5km/hr. if the speeds of the first and the second train are 50km/hr and 35km/hr respectively,
To Find : how much time after the trains started crossing each other did the second train cross the man walking the first train?
Solution:
two trains of lengths 300m and 400m moving in opposite directions started crossing each other.
Hence Distance to be covered = 300 + 400 = 700 m = 0.7 km
Distance = Speed x Time
Let say After T hrs second train cross the man walking the first train
Distance covered by 1st train = 50T km
Distance covered by 2nd train = 35T km
Distance Covered by Man = 5T km
Total Distance = 50T + 35T + 5T = 90T km
90T = 0.7
=> T = 0.7 / 90 hrs
=> T = 7/900 hrs
Time in seconds = 3600 x 7/900
= 28 secs
in 28 Seconds 2nd train cross the man walking the first train
