The two types of blood cells are RBCs also called as red blood cells and WBCs also called as white blood cells.

RBCs are red in colour and they contain hemoglobin and transport blood to all parts of body.

WBCs are the soldiers of our body and they prevent us from infection by fighting with the infection or the bacteria or say the germs. They recognise infection and make us strong.

There are three types of WBCs.

1. Eosinophils :-

  • They play an important role in immunity allergy and hypersensitivity.
  • Their nucleus is bilobed.
  • They are non motile.
  • A rise in their number in blood causes eisinophilia which occurs during worm infection.

2. Basophils :-

  • Their nucleus is S - shape the , less clear but have two or three twisted lobes
  • They secret heparin which functions as anticoagulant and histamine which is involved in inflammation.

3. Neutrophils ; Agranulocytes

  • They are the most active among WBCs.
  • Their nucleus has 2 to 5 distinct lobes.
  • They are most abundant that is about 60 to 70% in number among WBCs.
  • They are phagocytic in nature.
  • They engulf foreign particles and protect the body against infections.

Agranulocytes :-

  • They are non - granular corpuscels having a roughly round or indented nucleus and an unnuclear cytoplasm.
  • They are also called mono nuclear lecuocytes.
