1) depending of presence of mylein sheath nerves can be myleinated & non myleinated
nerve conduction is faster in myleinated nerves

2) depending neurotransmitters secretion nerve can be Sympathetic nerve & Parasympathetic nerve
Sympathetic and Parasympathetic divisions typically function in opposition to each other. The sympathetic division typically functions in actions requiring quick responses. The parasympathetic division functions with actions that do not require immediate reaction. To summarize the functions of the parasympathetic nervous system is sexual arousal, salivation, lacrimation, urination, digestion and defecation

3) depending on conduction of information nerves can be Sensory , Motor & Mixed.
Sensory nerve carries information for periphery to Central unit for olfactory nerve
Motor nerve carries information from Central unit to peripheral unit eg occulomotor nerve
Mixed nerve carries information both ways eg trigeminal nerve
