The value of x = 30 Ω and y = 7.5 v respectively.

Explanation:

  • By Wheatstone's principle:

x/y = l / 100 - l

Now put l = 80

x/y = 80 / 100 - 80 = 80 / 20 = 4 -----(1)

R(eq) / y = 50 / 100 - 50 => 10x / (10 + x) 1/y = 1 ------(2)

10x / (10 + x) x 4/x = 1

40 x = 10x + x^2

40 = 10 + x x = 30 Ω

y = x/4 = 30 / 4 = 15 / 2 = 7.5 Ω

Hence the value of x = 30 Ω and y = 7.5 v respectively.
