Answer:

Father's age = 5x = 5 × 6 = 30 years

Son's age = x = 6 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Two years ago:

Father's age = 5x

Son's age = x

Two years later:

Father's age = 5x + 2

Son's age = x + 2

8 + 3(x + 2) = 5x + 2

8 + 3x + 6 = 5x + 2

14 + 3x = 5x + 2

3x - 5x = 2 - 14

-2x = -12

x = -12/-2

x = 6

Father's age = 5x = 5 × 6 = 30 years

Son's age = x = 6 years

Check ⇒

Two years later:

Father's age = 5x + 2 = 30 + 2 = 32

Son's age = x + 2 = 6 + 2 = 8

8 + (3 × 8) = 32

8 + 24 = 32

32 = 32

L.H.S = R.H.S

Hence, verified.

The answer is correct.
