☜☆☞ Vegetation and forest are the immediate expression of climate of a region. So if we can divide India into climatic zones, we can more or less identify the forest types in India easily.
1) Tropical evergreen forest- found in areas having high temperature and rainfall. Like Western ghats, slopes of eastern Himalayas.
2) Monsoon deciduous forest- found in regions having well defined seasons and sheds leaves like regions of West Deccan, lower slopes of Himalayas.
3) Thorny or desert type- Naturally forest is not found because of lack of water. Vegetation of cactus etc and thorny bushes is seen. Region is western Rajasthan.
4) Mountain vegetation- As the name itself suggest,  the vegetation found in the forest. In the middle and upper Himalayas. Here the forest type and vegetation vary below and above the snowline.
5)Mangroves- These are salt resistant plants and roots are often exposed to air.India has one of the largest mangrove of the world- The Sunderbans. Found in the deltas of big rivers like Ganga,  Godavari-Krishna delta etc.

This classification cover almost whole of the country and it's major forest types.
