u have given two tubes. first tube has dil.HCLand second have distilled water in separate test tube. if u forget to lebeling the tubes. both solutions are colourless. solution of litmus,phenolphthlein and lime water are available to you. distinguish between two solutions.

Actually, We don't need all the 3 to distinguish,
1 is enough

We will mix Sol. of Litmus/ Litmus paper in Both Solutions,

Once we mix, Acid i.e. HCl, turns red colour

Since, water is neutral, Colour will not change!
