The Samyukta Maharashtra movement was led by Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti and Uddhavrao Patil was considered as one of the most prominent leaders of this movement.

It lasted for approximately 5 years and was detrimental to form Maharashtra. It can involve several political parties and demanded to make Mumbai as a separated city from Maharashtra. Hence Maharashtra state for Marathi speaking people was created.

On 6th February 1956, under the leadership of "Keshavrao Jedhe' at "Tilak Smarak" Mandir in Pune, the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement organisation was established. The "Executive Council" of Samiti was announced. As President, Shripad Amrit Dange and a s Vice-President Dr. TR Naravane, & a s Secretary General, SM Joshi was chosen. Several of the the Prominent activists of included leftists such as Uddhavrao Patil, Shreedhar Mahadev Joshi, Narayan Ganesh Gore, & Shripad Amrit Dange. .

  • The movt Samyukta Maharashr was an India organisation which supported the creation, between 1956-1960, of an independent, 'marathi-speaking" state in Western India. Samyukta Maharashtra Chalaval is widely known as the Samiti movt. Samiti requested the creation of the new state of Bombay, a bilingual Marathi-Gujarati state, whose capital is the city of Bombay. The Samiti achieved its goal with the establishment of the state of Maharashtra on 1st May 1960. The government of Maharashtra became the first state of govt. Members actively supported the inclusion in Maharashtra and Goa (newly annexed state until   Goa Opinion Poll had rejected merger with Maharashtra 1967) , of Marathi-speaking areas in northern Karnataka such as  Karwar, Belgaum, Bidore, & Dharwad.
  • On 1st May 1960, when the Bombay state  was divided into the marathi-speaking State of Gujarat & the Marathi speaking State of Maharashtra, the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti fulfilled its purpose. But in the state of Maharashtra no admission was granted to Goa (then "Portuguese colony"), Belgaum, Karwar & surrounding areas that  was envisaged by the Samiti also belonged to the Samiti Maharashtra. Senyukt Maharashtra Samiti's prominent leaders agreed after 1st May 1960 to leave Samiti, however the then Samiti President Bhai Uddhavrao Patil continued the battle for the 862 marathi-speaking Karnataka villages, which had been omitted from the war in 19 60.
