The ultrastructure of the mitochondria is composed of the following parts:
Explanation:
- An outer phospho-lipid membrane.
- An inter-membrane space.
- An inner phospho-lipid membrane.
- The inner phospholipid membrane is folded into finger-like projections called the Cristae.
- F1 particles also called ATP synthase responsible for synthesising ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which remains attached to the surface of the cristae.
- Matrix located inside the mitochondrial inner membrane.
- Mitochondrial DNA.
- Mitochondrial Ribosomes.
