Copper lies below iron in the metal reactivity series. Since iron is more reactive than copper, iron will succeed to displace copper from its solution. Now, copper sulphate solution is blue in colour and ferrous sulphate green. So, iron displaces copper from blue coloured copper sulphate solution to form green coloured ferrous sulphate solution.
