the floating or sinking of an object depends on the density of the liquid so if the density of the liquid is greater than that of an object then the object will float.FOR EXAMPLE-if an iron nail is placed above water,it will sink but if it is placed on mercury(greater density than iron) it will start floating...HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
