Average speed is defined as the total distance over the total time taken by an object.

Whereas, Average velocity is defined as the distance travelled over the net displacement of an object.

Distance and displacement could be the same if the reaction of both is same and constant.

This happens when an object moves along a straight line in a fixed direction.
