Answer:Displacement is the shortest distance between initial position and final position whereas distance is the length of the path travelled between these two positions.

Thus, distance travelled between any 2 fixed points can vary depending upon the path taken whereas displacement will be fixed as the shortest distance between any 2 points is given by the length of straight line between these 2 points (positions).

So, out of different paths, when the object takes straight path to travel, i.e., when the object travels in a straight line without changing its direction, then the path length will be the shortest and distance covered will be equal to the magnitude of displacement.
