Breathing rate generally increases during vigorous physical exercises. Other cases may include a situation of flight or fight, during emergencies, and when the oxygen content decreases as in hilly areas or if the carbondioxide content of the atmosphere increases as sitting in a crowded room for long hours with poor ventilation.
