If the soil is acidic in nature which is not suitable for agriculture then the farmer would treat the soil with quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) or chalk (calcium carbonate).

A farmer would treat the soil of his farm with quicklime or slaked lime only if the soil is acidic in nature.

This is because acidic soil is not suitable for farming.

Plants cannot grow in acidic soil and hence it will affect the crop growth of the farmers.

They make the soil neutral or basic by treating it with quicklime or slaked lime.
