Stress is the internal restoring force acting per unit area of a deformed body is called stress.
Stress= Restoring force/ Area
Dimension of Stress= M^1L^1T^-2
SI unit of Stress= N/m^2 or Pascal(Pa)
There are 3 types of stress:linear stress, volume or bulk stress and shearing stress
