There are numerous issues plaguing India even after almost seven decades of independence. But the most critical problem that affects India is unemployment. India is a 'young' country. The country comprises a considerable percentage of youth. Without proper employment and income they are frustrated and become easy preys to national and international terrorist groups that promise a more than reasonable income to them for engaging in dubious activities.

So if the country wants to advance from being a 'developing country' to the 'developed country' the needs of its youth have to be addressed. They are the people who can act and are enthusiastic about action because of their young energy. But how can a young person contribute towards national development when he himself cannot satisfy his own needs and other personal obligations. He needs to have a sizable income to do these. But without a proper employment how can he achieve this?

Illiteracy is not that much of a problem now as the country has advanced considerably in this field. Then what is stopping the present generation from getting suitable employments? This needs to be examined at length.

When we consider the education system, we find that the education is provided randomly. That is, the subjects offered in the age-old curriculum are mostly traditional. Most of these syllabi offer a curriculum without bothering to find out the demand of the subjects offered in the employment scenario. The number of employment slots are far less than that of qualified people.

This is where the relevance of vocational education comes in. 'Vocational education' means education in some of the hands-on jobs. Contrary to the theory based obsolete education, this provides the students with the ability to do things which can help them to get self-employed. They need not go about searching for a job that suits their qualification. The vocational education gives them enough practical experience that will help them to be engaged in  'start-up' programmes.

The syllabus of the vocational education teaches them how to be an entrepreneur on their own, in stead of learning by rote the principles of entrepreneurship. It enables them to start different cottage industries and be successful in them. The vocational education gives them the required confidence because what they learn is not just theory but the crude practical side of it as well.

The vocational education in short, decreases the government's efforts to create job opportunities for the millions of educated but unemployed youths. Given the ability to function as their own employers, the young generation will prosper and they will lead their country also along the path of prosperity.

Unemployment is a serious problem of India. It is becoming more and more serious day by day. India has the population of about 1.20 billion. Many of the Indians are jobless. The problem of unemployment is rising fast. Every able bodied man and woman must get employment. If not, the problem of unemployment will create difficulties for the development of the country.

Many age-old businesses that are not able to cope-up with the changing demand and economic scenario are either closed down or heavy retrenchment takes place in them. When there is slump in business, many people find themselves without jobs.

Though a number of young men have been absorbed in the Information Technology businesses, a large number of youth people are still unemployed.
