There are two types - Uniform Quantization and Non-uniform Quantization.
In Uniform Quantization, the levels are uniformly spaced. And where the space is not equal and relation between them in logarithmic, it is called Non-Uniform Quantization.
Again in the Uniform Quantization, we have two – Mid-Rise and Mid-Tread type.
When the origin lies in the middle of the raising part of the stair-case like graph, it is called Mid-Rise type. It has even number of quantization levels.
While the origin lies in the middle of the tread of the stair-case like graph, it is called Mid-tread type. It has odd number of quantization levels.
Both the types of uniform quantizers are symmetric about the origin.
