The British saw the enmity between different Indian rulers and took advantage of this disunity. They support one ruler to defeat another ruler. They introduced their divide and rule policy and eventually the whole of India was taken over by them.
When the people in a society live together in unity there will be peace and progress. No nation can prosper if the people are not united. A country torn by strife internally cannot stand up against external foreign enemies.
