Unpolarized light falls on two polarizing sheets placed one on top of the other. What must be the angle between the characteristic directions of the sheets if the intensity of the final transmitted light is one-third the maximum intensity of the first transmitted beam(a) 75°(b) 55°(c) 35°(d) 15°

Until i remember from my Light Waves Lectures
Intensity(theta) = Intensity (0) * 1/2*cos^2 theta
Thus here since the Intensity has to be 1/3rd
Cos ^2 theta = 2/3
Hence,
theta = 35.2
So the answer will become (c) 35°
Intensity(theta) = Intensity (0) * 1/2*cos^2 theta
Thus here since the Intensity has to be 1/3rd
Cos ^2 theta = 2/3
Hence,
theta = 35.2
So the answer will become (c) 35°
