A soap film is on a rectangular wire ring of size 2cm x 3cm. If the size
of the film is changed to 3cm x 3cm, calculate the work done in this
process. (the surface tension of soap solution is 3.0x10-²Nm).

work done in the process is 1.8 × 10^-5 J

initial area of film, A_i = 2cm × 3cm = 6 cm²

final area of film, A_f = 3cm × 3cm = 9cm²

change in area, ∆A = A_f - A_i

= 9 cm² - 6 cm²

= 3 cm² = 3 × 10-⁴ m²

work done , W = change in area × surface tension

but A soap has two surface so,

workdone in the given process, W = 2∆A.T

= 2 × 3 × 10-⁴ m² × 3.0 × 10-² N/m

= 18 × 10^-6 Nm = 1.8 × 10^-5 J
