Given:\int\limits^5_3 {(2 - x)} \,dx

⇒ ∫ 2dx - ∫ x dx

⇒ 2x - (x^2/2) + c.

Compute the boundaries:

(i)

When x = 3:

⇒ 2(3) - (3^2/2)

⇒ 6 - (9/2)

⇒ 3/2.

(ii)

When x = 5:

⇒ 2(5) - (5^2/2)

⇒ 10 - (25/2)

⇒ (20 - 25)/2

⇒ -5/2.

Now,

⇒ (-5/2) - (3/2)

⇒ -8/2

-4.

Hope it helps!
