Nevertheless, is a conjunctive adverb (CA) used to connect and inter-relate the two independent clauses (IC) to show the cause and effect, sequence, similarity, or contrast relationship between the ICs. CA can be used either in the beginning or middle or end of the sentence; and accordingly, should begin with a semicolon, comma, or a period, since they are not that strong to join two ICs. Hence, the general format for joining two ICs using a CA is: 1st main IC +;+ conjunctive adverb+,+ second IC. Other CAs include however, nonetheless, moreover, otherwise, etc."
